Belle Fourche Bronc Volleyball celebrated their 2023 season with an awards ceremony on January 4th. The Broncs looked back on their 21-12 season and handed out team, conference, and state awards.
All players for all levels were recognized, starting with the C team. I, Coach Brindley, wrote a short poem commemorating some of the highlights of the season. Coach Mikayla Watson then spoke of her JV team and pointed out the good qualities of her individual players. Coach Loree Schlichtemeier thanked all of those who helped make the season enjoyable with behind the scenes work. This included thanking each of the managers, whom were highly respected by all officiating crews we met throughout the season for their attention to detail and knowledge of the game. Senior managers include Chloe Schmoker and Morgan Kruhl. After each player received their gift and letter, Coach talked about them individually and highlighted their best games. Sloan Young and Mataya Ward received plaques for having been voted Team Captains at the beginning of the year. The pair was also selected to the Black Hills All-Conference team. Reese Larson and Avery Cherveny received All-Conference Honorable Mention. Ward was also honored for being a 2nd-Team All-State selection for Class A in South Dakota.
Academic All-State is an award for seniors who have been a member of volleyball for at least three years and maintained above a 3.5 GPA. Young, Ward, Larson, Katelynn Lee, Sarah Juelfs, Jacie Baxendale, and Olivia Nehl all received the honor. Team-voted awards were as follows: Cherveny received the award for Defensive player, Reagan Hatling was voted Most-Improved, Ward was chosen for both the Offensive player and MVP, and Juelfs received the Bronc Spirit award.
The night finished with a slideshow of season photos both on and off the court.
Congratulations to all the coaches, players, and families for a wonderful season of Bronc Volleyball.
