Newell Irrigator Basketball Season Underway

NEWELL—The Newell Irrigators’ basketball season kicked off with a double header at home against the Harding County Ranchers on Friday, December 8.

The game was a loss for both the girls’ and boys’ teams. But they came back strong the very next day with a massive win against the Bison Cardinals in another double header. The final score for the Lady Irrigators was 60-40, and the boys finished with a score of 68-50.

The Lady Irrigators played their latest game on Friday, December 15 against the Kadoka Kougars. The game was hard-fought and remarkably close; at halftime, the score was 22-17 in favor of the Kougars, but the teams were neck and neck throughout the second half. Unfortunately, the Irrigators turned up just short and ended with a loss. The final score was 52-48.

Currently, the girls have a record of 3-2, while the boys’ record is 1-3.

The next basketball game will be on December 29, when both teams will play at home in a double header versus Lemmon’s Cowboys. Games will start with JV at 1:00 pm at the Austin Auditorium. Be sure to come out and show support for our basketball teams!
