BELLE FOURCHE—Appetites were as hearty as the helpings when Belle Silver Lining hosted hungry guests for the second annual spaghetti feed on October 24.
For a free-will donation, plates were piled high with spaghetti noodles, meat sauce and garlic bread. Board members, volunteers and employees of Belle Silver Lining were on hand to cook, serve food and drinks and keep things moving along. They also served food to those who needed a little help and removed dirty dishes when guests were finished eating.
Laughter and conversation could be heard throughout the Moose Lodge, where the event was held, as neighbors, friends and family enjoyed each other’s company.
The spaghetti feed was a fundraising event to help with the operational expenses at Belle Silver Lining. Fundraising is vital for the survival of the center. “It takes a cook, volunteers—Chuck’s [Lawless] been doing the cooking. Then planning ahead—make sure we have everything we need, the supplies and stuff,” explained Marilyn Huston-Engle, board president. “We will probably use it [money] to help with the meals… we’ll pay the bill for the food and then the proceeds will go to the center.”
Belle Silver Lining offers a place for seniors to gather to play cards and games, get educational information, participate in activities and watch movies, in addition to enjoying food service. They serve meals in the center and they also deliver meals. The mission of the organization is helping seniors pursue active, meaningful and healthy lives with informational, social, intellectual and wellness services.
The senior center is in dire need of additional volunteers and is looking for several board members to fill the vacant seats. Reach out to Belle Silver Lining if you can help.
There are plenty of opportunities to support the organization at upcoming fundraisers. Bingo is November 3 at Branding Iron Steakhouse; doors open at 6 p.m. and games start at 7 p.m. They will be having a bake sale at Runnings on November 20.
Their annual chili feed is at the Belle Fourche Community Hall on Friday, November 27. The gathering is before the Parade of Lights and there will be pictures with Santa. The chili feed is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The next day, Saturday, November 28, the Belle Silver Lining will be hosting a Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center located at 828 Kingsbury St. All of the tables are full already, so the event looks to be a grand one.
Belle Silver Lining will be making a change to its traditional Thanksgiving schedule this year. “We decided to be closed this Thanksgiving. Before we’ve always been open. We’ll do our Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, and then the deliveries will get two meals that day, so they won’t be without meal on Thursday,” shared Huston-Engle.
