ST. ONGE, S.D. — The CBH CO-OP Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the St. Onge Volunteer Fire Department to support construction of its new firehall, an investment aimed at strengthening emergency services and rural vitality in the St. Onge community.
The St. Onge Volunteer Fire Department has served the community since 1948, providing fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services, community assistance and mutual aid to surrounding areas.
The department’s current firehall was constructed in 1950 and no longer provides adequate space for all of the department’s vehicles and equipment. The new facility is intended to give the department the space and resources necessary to meet the needs of a growing community for decades to come.
The $10,000 grant will help fund site preparation for the new firehall, including fill material, surveying, dirt work, water and sewer installation, contracted equipment and labor associated with preparing the site for construction.
“Projects like this are exactly why the CBH COOP Foundation was created. A volunteer fire department is an essential part of a rural community, and this project will serve families, businesses, agricultural producers and visitors to the St. Onge area for generations. We’re proud to invest $10,000 in a project that will have such a lasting impact”, said Mike Galloway, executive director of the CBH CO-OP Foundation.
The grant reflects the CBH CO-OP Foundation’s commitment to strengthening rural communities throughout its service area and investing in projects that create meaningful, long term community impact.
The St. Onge Volunteer Fire Department identified residents, businesses, the fire department and visitors to the area as beneficiaries of the new facility.
