BELLE FOURCHE—Imagine the excitement of hunting for eggs inside a dinosaur museum! Children ages five to twelve got to experience just that during a dinosaur-themed Dinosaur Egg Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, as part of the Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum’s Grand Reopening.
Kids and their families lined up outside the Museum, eagerly awaiting the doors to open for the Easter egg hunt inside. Participants traveled from across the area to take part in the first-ever Easter Egg Bash, with visitors coming from Belle, Spearfish, and as far away as Hulett, WY, to join in the dinosaur style fun.
Brightly colored candy-filled eggs were hidden throughout the museum. “You guys know this is a museum, so there are some pretty fragile things in here. You will not have to go digging through anything to find anything—they’re pretty easy to find,” explained owner Walter Stein.
A few moments of Stein explaining the rules and discussing everyone’s favorite dinos kept the children entertained. Bags were handed out to anyone who needed one to collect their eggs. Finally, around 10 a.m., Stein gave the start, “One, two, three, DINOSAURS!” And off the kids went!
There were eggs hidden all around the Museum, including the gift shop. One special egg contained season passes to the Museum. Kids zoomed around with excitement, but were also very cautious and respectful of their surroundings. After one round was finished, the kids wanted more!
Stein announced, “What if we go up to the front, turn your plastic egg in, take your prizes—keep your prizes, obviously—give your plastic eggs to Ginger and Kayla. They’re going to load them back up and we’ll hide them again! We will go again!”
To this announcement, the kids were all in! They returned to the gift shop and waited as the staff of the Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum refilled the plastic eggs and hid the eggs in the Museum for another round of egg hunting!
Stein said he was thrilled with the turnout as he didn’t know how many kids to plan for with other towns having Easter egg hunts at the same time.
If your kids love dinosaurs, the Museum is available to rent for birthday parties and other events. Reach out to Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum for more information.
