NEWELL—Would you be interested in learning about a very simple way to save a life? Blood donation—thats right, giving your blood could save a life. Sabrina Harmon knows this firsthand. According to Vitalant, the largest independent blood services provider in the country, Sabrina has donated blood 64 times as of December 2024.

Vitalant has chosen to recognize Harmons efforts in coordinating local blood drives by putting her in the spotlight and creating an ad highlighting all the ways she has given back to the community.

Giving blood is vital. Vitalants website states that every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. That makes the act of giving blood more important than ever.

Last year, Harmon suffered a heart attack and can no longer donate blood. However, during her triple bypass surgery, she received three units of blood that helped keep her alive.

Although she can no longer be a donor, she continues to coordinate blood drives, and she does so with pride. The next Newell Community Blood Drive she is organizing is scheduled for December 1 at Newell Christian Fellowship Church, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate blood or needing help scheduling an appointment can reach out to Harmon at 605-381-9136.

Vitalant reports that they need to collect more than 4,500 blood donations every day to meet current patient needs. Thank you, Sabrina, for living the mission and inspiring others to give the gift of life,” they said. If you want to get involved, reach out to Vitalant vitalant.org/blooddrive.
