BELLE FOURCHE—There is no better time to celebrate than a birthday! On Saturday, July 12 the Red Onion Marketplace had its 5th birthday and owner Robin Ager put together a fun event to celebrate the day.

Five years in business, has gone by fast! Red Onion Marketplace began as a dream of Robin’s, one that she had forever! She said, “Wonderful! It’s been such a fun, exciting five years—it’s been wonderful!”

As a small business owner she is constantly thinking of ways to keep customers coming by. “We try to add new items every single year!”

Starting at 9:00 a.m. the gates opened to let everyone in to buy the fresh pies, cookies, breads, muffins, caramel rolls, cinnamon rolls and much more! There were a couple of vendors that came out to celebrate with the Onion. Alexandrea Hansen brought her painting talents and hosted a class teaching locals to paint on canvas. Fleur De Belle Jewelry was on hand selling beautiful handmade designs.

The area was cordoned off with strings of colorful triangular flags and brightly colored balloon bunches were placed at the main building.

Located right outside of town on Highway 34 the Red Onion Marketplace offers a nice area to stop and grab some home baked goodies and seasonal organically grown produce. There are seats and tables to sit and enjoy your new finds or a fresh cup of coffee.

Robin started baking at a young age. “I learned how to bake when I was eight—from my grandma,” she explained. “I started then and just kept on with it! My grandma taught me how to bake pies and stuff—it’s fun!”

All of the pies, cakes, breads and any other baked goods she makes, she does on her own. “Me and my three ovens are busy, busy,” she exclaimed!

While she grew up baking, she didn’t grow up gardening. That is something she has learned over the years. “I did not garden growing up at all! I just thought it would be a fun combination so people would have a place to come and get their fresh produce,” said Robin. It won’t be long until all of the fresh produce is ready for the public. “In a few weeks, we should have some tomatoes and stuff, the tomato plants in the greenhouse are really tall at this point!”

If you couldn’t make it to the birthday celebration, you can still partake in the delightful yummy goodness every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning in June and running through September.
