Charlie was the featured guest at the June Family Fun Day at the Tri-State Museum last Sunday. The theme of the event was turtles and tortoises.
Charlie is a turtle who spends most of his time in or near water, although he also seemed to enjoy crawling on the carpet at the museum and as he entertained an audience of children eager to learn about him.
Turtles and tortoises look alike, but they are very different.
For example, tortoises can’t swim and so they prefer to live on the land. Turtles and tortoises inhabit the entire world and come in various sizes.
The event was well attended. Dads were admitted free in honor of fathers’ day. There was a film, crafts, a book drawing, a take-home workbook and of course an appearance by Charlie. Refreshments were served. The Tri-State Museum hosts a family fun day once a month. Admission is $2 per person or free with membership. The Tri-State Museum and Visitor Center is located at 415 Fifth Avenue in Belle Fourche. For more information, call 605- 723-1200.
