Newell Elementary Visits Windfarm

Newell News

NEWELL, SD – Earlier this month local students from Newell Elementary School toured Orsted’s Willow Creek facility in Newell, South Dakota. Ms. Stockert, 4th grade teacher at Newell Elementary stopped by the company’s operations building to inquire about tours for students.

Sean Salisbury, Plant Manager at Orsted, a native of Sturgis and current resident, worked with Ms. Stockert to get the visit scheduled. On May 15, 19 fourth graders and 3 teachers met at the O&M building, where they learned about the day to day operations of the site and how a wind turbine works.

From there they toured the substation and the base of one of the turbines. “Seeing the excitement the kids showed and the questions they asked was remarkable,” said Sean Salisbury, Plant Manager at Orsted. “This goes high on the list for best experiences I’ve had since entering the renewable field.”
