by Melanie Aker, BELLE FOURCHE-Riverfest took place in Belle Fourche on Saturday, June 7th, from 10 am to 3 pm. Multiple businesses had set up shop down by the Belle Fourche River.
The Chamber of Commerce hosts the event right next to the Center of the Nation Landmark.
Chamber Director, Michaela Horn, came across some brief history about the Riverfest event while looking through some drawers at the Chamber, and she said the Riverfest event has roots in Belle Fourche’s history when the river was used as a mode of transportation.
Since then, Riverfest has become a platform for the community to come together, have fun, learn new things, and support local businesses.
There was food, kids’ fun, vendors, and competitions taking place.
Local food trucks were selling delicious meats and other savory dishes, other stands had beer and drinks.
Many kids were jumping and having fun in the bouncy castle and taking rides on a green choo-choo train.
The Shriners International held a duck racing competition with prizes ranging from $500 to $150 for those whose lucky ducks won the race.
A cornhole competition was set, but with few attendees reg- istered, a few people tossed the bean bags around and made their own fun.
The Sanford Lab in Lead was also present and educating the community about some of the cool and scientific endeavors they are undertaking, inviting the community to join in.
The nice, warm weather and wide variety of cultures offered at Riverfest created an excellent and diverse experience for people of all ages.
