NISLAND-Ready to enjoy some farm fresh meat and produce? Add some ice cream and a freshly made sweet roll and the day can begin!

All of this and more can be found at the newly opened Nisland Farm Fresh Market along Highway 212 at Nisland. The building has been several businesses over the years and now has taken a new look with the Farm Fresh Market located on the east side of the building. A residence fills the other side.

According to the market’s manager Gwendolyn Kitzan, plans had been stirring for over two years. The partnership between Kitzan Family Farms and The Meat Shop was an opportunity that filled the need for a small business in the area.

“It made sense to combine the two businesses,” said Kitzan.

The market is an outlet for the Kitzan Family Farms Ready to Eat Meals, lamb, and soaps and lotions. It also gives the Meat Shop room for their lines of sausages, jerky, and other meat products, plus retail cuts of beef.

You can find chicken from Deer Creek Meats in Glendive, MT or meats from Oak Lane Meats in Alexandria, SD. Fresh milk and cheeses come from Farm Life Dairy in Ethan, SD. And at the moment eggs, cabbage, and onions from Cedar Creek Gardens can be purchased.

And there’s more! For a special occasion or just because flowers are available from Joyful Blooms, just down the road from Nisland. There are jams and jellies from Deb’s Downhome Delight in Rapid City. The Honey Man from Spearfish has left a supply of local honey.

There’s no need to go hungry with fresh bread and baked goods. Ice cream is always a welcome treat. Don’t forget a cup of coffee to add to the enjoyment of the delicious baked goods.

Although there’s no seating in the shop, there is space outside and Kitzan says they welcome folks to bring a chair or eat a picnic in the area.

The market will soon be taking SNAP and EBT. Presently, cash, checks, and cards are welcome.

Kitzan wanted everyone to know that the market is safe and appropriate for teens to work, highlighting the fact that there is no alcohol, no tobacco, and no video lottery.

Hours for the Nisland Farm Fresh Market are Tuesday through Friday, 9-6 and Saturday 9-Noon. They are closed on Sunday.

Slow down when you get close to Nisland and turn into the Farm Fresh Market to enjoy some wonderful ice cream or a roll or pick up something for supper.
