NISLAND-There is always room for another flower somewhere and now there’s a place that has fresh blooms to purchase and later this summer dried flowers to gather. Joyful Blooms on Vale Cut-Off Road is an acre or so of flowers of all sizes and scents. During the Mother’s Day weekend, beautiful tulips were a colorful temptation waiting to be picked. There’s hope the blooms will continue for another week or two, depending on the hot weather.
Soon to come will be dahlias, snapdragons, anemones, yarrow, and statice to name just a few of the flowers available. Owner Sarah Schwede said that it’s been her dream to grow flowers. She is working on making the dream a reality with each new seed in the ground.
“I love and enjoy growing flowers,” she said with a big grin.
The plants are all started inside the house, although Schwede is hoping that someday there will be a greenhouse.
“It’s a family project,” she said. Clint, Abby, Benjamin, Emmett, and Ellie join Sarah during planting and harvesting and waiting on customers.
Schwede explained that her flower business began at local Farmers’ Markets and has grown into the You-Pick business.
Presently, the hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10-6. Watch the Joyful Blooms Facebook page for changes in hours. You may call and order bouquets or find out hours of picking.
When you find yourself needing a little color to brighten a corner or dress up the table think of Joyful Blooms and head south of Nisland. There will be a prize waiting for you. Plan on spending a bit of time, it’s hard to decide what to pick.
