By Kandi Tonsager, The Belle Fourche High School opened their season on Tuesday April 8th at the Douglas Early Bird Invite, followed by the Queen City Invite in Spearfish on Friday April 11th. Highlights for the week in Bronc Track & Field: In Douglas, for the Ladies- Lia Mundt placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run, Rhys Pearson placed 4th, Misty Drieling placed 13, Abby Clendening placed 17th in the 1600 meter run. Mikka Dunavant placed 7th in the 400 meter dash. Kailey Nowowiejski placed 5th and Jaz Olson placed 7th in the 200 meter dash. Mya Nowowiejski placed 5th, Kailey Nowowiejski placed 6th, Mikka Dunavant placed 7th, and Jaz Olson placed 9th in the100 meter dash. The ladies 4×800 meter relay took 1st (Mundt, Pearson, Clendening, Drieling). In throwing events, Chloe Merjil took 7th in discus, 2nd in shot put and 5th in javelin. Elle Anderson made the top ten placers at number 9 in javelin.
For the boys in top ten placers in running events, Lennon Clarkson came in 4th in the 1600 meter run, Kash LeLaCheur came in 8th with Gavin Pearson following in 9th in the 200 meter dash and Kash in 7th and Gavin in 9th in the 100 meter dash. In throwing events, Joseph McLennon placed 6th in discus and 9th in shot put. Aidan Keil took 2nd in high jump.
In Spearfish, for the ladies, top placers were; Lia Mundt took 3rd in the 1600 meter run, Rhys Pearson took 6th in the 800 meter run, 4×200 meter relay team (Olson, Dunavant, Nowowiejski & Nowowiejski) 4th, 4×400 me ter relay team (Pearson, Nowowiejski, nowowiejski, Dunavant) took 4th, and the sprint medley relay team (Olson, Nowowiejski, Nowowiejski, Mundt) took 5th. In throwing, Chloe Merjil took 8th in shot put and 2nd in javelin. For the boys top results in Spearfish, Lennon Clarkson placed 10th in the 3200 meter run, in the 4×200 meter relay team (Pearson, Frederickson, Howard, LeLaCheur) placed 5th, and the sprint medley relay team (LeLaCheur, Howard, Pearson, Clarkson) placed 8th. In high jump, Aidan Keil placed 6th.
Improving and securing their spots on the Bronc All-Time Top 10 list, in running events, Lady Broncs Rhys Pearson secured number 2 in the 800 meter run, Lia Mundt improved her number 2 spot in the 1600 meter run and number 4 in the 1600 meter run, and the 800 meter relay team of Jaz Olson, Mikka Dunavant, Mya Nowowiejski and Kailey Nowowiejski moved to the number 2 spot. In the 1600 meter relay, Mya, Kailey, Mikka and Rhys Pearson took number 4 and in the 1600 meter sprint medley, Mya, Kailey, Jaz, and Lia Mundt took number 8.
In throwing events Chloe Merjil moved to the number 2 spot in Javelin and the number 5 spot in shot put, Elle Anderson took number 5 in javelin, Ellie Schreder improved her number 6 spot in javelin, and Emma Nehl took number 7 in javelin. For the boys, Gavin Pearson takes number 10 in the 400 meter run, Tegan Frederickson improved his number 7 spot in the 300 meter hurdles, Lennon Clarkson improved his number 3 spot in the 3200 meter run and takes number 7 in the 1600 meter run, Aidan Keil tied for the number 4 spot in high jump, Payton Jackson improved his number 3 spot in javelin, Chris Jewett took the number 5 spot and Gabe Raba took the number 8 spot in javelin. Records are kept by the Bronc Track and Field Coaches.
The high school JV competes next on Monday April 14th in Spearfish and on Thursday April 17th is the Center of the Nation invite at the Belle Fourche High School track.
The Belle Fourche Middle School track team competed in their first meet on Thursday April 10th in Sturgis with many competitors in tops spots and boasting PRs (Personal Records) in various events. Highlights: 7th grade Running Events: In the 1600 meter race, Piper Curran took 2nd and Isabella Torberson took 4th, both with PRs for the girls with Brux Hartman taking 3rd for the boys. \In the 100 meter hurdles, Maddox Clarkson took 2nd for the boys. Berklee Nore took 2nd for the girls in the 100 meter dash. Cole Mailloux took 2nd in the 400 meter dash for the boys while Bradly Dreiske took 2nd in the 200 meter dash followed by Blaine Moke in 3rd. Grace Long took 1st in the 400 meter dash for the girls and 2nd in the 200 meter dash. In the 800 meter run, Layla Drieling took 2nd followed by Isabela Torberson in 3rd for the girls with Brux Hartman in 2nd and Maddox Clarkson in 5th for the boys. 8th grade Running Events: In the 100 meter hurdles Ansley O’Brien took 1st with Betsy Moore coming in 5th for the girls and Rylan Gross taking 4th followed by Hayden Mitchell in 5th for the boys. In the 100 meter dash Betsy Moore took 4th with Peyton Richardson in 6th for the girls and Connor Kukla came in 2nd for the boys. In the 200 meter dash Ansley O’Brien took 1st, followed by Peyton Richarson in 3rd for the girls and Connor Kukla took 1st followed by Maliky Rodriguez in 7th for the boys. 7th grade Throwing Events: Charlie Merjil took 3rd in shotput with a throw of 25’ for the girls. Ben Raba took 1st in discuss with a throw of 97’07” and 2nd in shot put with a throw of 30’08” for the boys.
8th grade throwing events: In discuss Andrew Coyle took 3rd with a throw of 83’, Reven Audiss took 5th with a throw of 80’4” and Owen Hatling took 6th with a throw of 77’ In shot put Andrew Coyle took first with a throw of 35’2”, Grant Hagen took 4th with a throw of 30’10”, Owen Hatling took 5th with a throw of 30’3” and Silas Pesicka took 6th with a throw of 27’6” 7th Jumping events: Berklee Nore took 1st in high jump at 4’7” and 2nd in Long Jump at 13’5” for the girls. Max Coyle took 2nd in high jump at 4’8” and Zane Baker took 4th at 4’6”, Blaine Moke took 5th in long jump at 13’10” and Max Coyle took 6th at 13’7” for the boys.
8th grade Jumping Events: In high jump, Rhyan Knapp took 2nd at 4’, Patton Richardson took 3rd at 4’ for the girls and for the boys, Grant Hagen took 1st at 5’2” In long jump, Ansly O’Brien took 1st at 15’3”, Ella Bryan took 3rd at 13’4”, Avery Coyle took 5th at 12’5”, and Madisyn VanSickle took 7th at 11’6” for the girls. For the boys, Reven Audiss took 5th at 13’1” and Saxton Stefvater took 8th at 12’3”. The Middle School track season continued this week with the Spearfish Invite on 4/12, next week they will compete at home on Tuesday April 15th at the Belle Fourche High School.
