Beacon Updates

Belle Fourche News News

There was a line from the Seinfeld show when Jerry comments, “isn’t it amazing how the amount of news that occurs just fits perfectly on the pages of the newspaper?”

After nearly eight years of working at publishing the Beacon, I’d agree it is a task that accomplishes that minor miracle each week..

This Beacon, this week has a new construction, in that it has four -four page sections all in full color print.

We want to keep up with news and events of interest to the readers, and present it in a way that pleases the advertisers who use it to tell the story of their business and its products or services provided, to show you what the have available.

We wish to continue to provide and grow the service that informs and connects the people in the Tri-State area that support the businesses and activities that are here. Sports, Government, the Arts, and much, much more!

Rotating delivery areas where the paper might alternate “delivered and printed” and “online only” weeks.

Online weeks there will be places in the community where printed copies can be picked up. (Currently copies of the Beacon are available for pickup at the Belle Fourche Chamber office on Grant Street and Print Mark-et on State Street). We would expand the locations where it can be picked up. Grocery stores, coffee shops, etc..

It has been suggested that we, like many news organizations around the country do an online only edition with places where a printed copy of the news can be received.

Another model provides online news and advertisements but with hard copies of the paper readily available you can stop and pick a copy up.

These ideas come to the surface when considering the financial costs of continuing to provide the local and area news.

We would like to hear from you what your preference may be.

You can email your thoughts, ideas and suggestions to news@ bellefourchebeacon.com or text to 605-645-2193.

Next weeks April 16 edition may be an online only edition to see if many of you wish to log onto www.bellefourchebeacon.com and read the news on an electronic device.

The economics of today’s newspaper industry are such that is difficult task to continue operation of the Beacon.

We are taking steps to establish a nonprofit that can own, manage, and operate the Beacon.

It could lead to industry grant programs that nonprofits are eligible for as well as allowing donor contributions to be tax deductible.

Thank you for your interest and support of local news and information!
