March 17 City Council Meeting

The City Council held a meeting on March 17. The Mayor’s Report included a presentation of a Certificate of Achievement from DANR to the City of Belle Fourche Public Water System. Ryan Stedillie, Aaron Fowler, and Steve Nafus accepted the award.

No community input or committee reports were given.

Attendees were reminded that Board of Equalization will be Wednesday, March 19 at 5 p.m.; Council orientation will be held on May 15 at 6 p.m. for all Council members; a Special Council meeting will be held on March 31 at 5:30 p.m.; and a Candidate Forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 27 at Venue 519.

Councilperson Schmaltz will be in Washington, D.C., March 24 through March 27 representing Belle Fourche for the Theodore Roosevelt Expressway.

Councilperson Schild requested excusal from City Council on April 21.

The groundbreaking for the new Police Department took place Thursday, March 20 at 2 p.m.

Keller completed a flow test on well number three, showing 1,100 gallons per minute. Additionally, bids for Phase Three on 11th Avenue and side streets will open April 10, the airport taxiway reconstruction bids open March 26 for FAA review, and the five-year airport consultant selection process is also being advertised this week.

City crews are currently tilling sections of the parks to remove rocks and bentonite, and will soon bring in fresh soil and apply hydroseed.

Nature is Nonpartisan held a meeting on March 19 at 9 a.m. in the Council Chambers. The District 10 meeting will take place on April 1 at the Lodge in Deadwood.

The council went into executive session and reconvened with the motion to terminate R. Liming from employment as Landfill Equipment Operator I for the City of Belle Fourche. The motion carried.

There will be a Special City Council meeting on March 31. The next regular City Council meeting will be April 7 at 6 p.m.
