BELLE FOURCHE—For the celebration of their 15th season of theater, Belle Fourche Area Community Theater (BFACT) invited the community to dust off their tuxes and unpack their best taffeta gowns for a 90s Prom fundraiser on the evening of March 1.
The Community Hall was transformed back to a time when our favorite Friends gathered at Central Perk and Saved by the Bell was the preferred high school with cardboard cutouts of the stars from the 90s greeting everyones arrival. Balloons, corsages, fanny packs, tiaras, bandanas, slap bracelets and vintage video game consoles from that time period were all used to create the time warp. Hunter Anderson was on hand to take pictures of the happy couples and party goers at a makeshift photo booth.
Belle Fourche Area Community Theater (BFACT) created an evening that invoked memories of times gone by. Attendees enjoyed a pulled pork dinner from The Farmhouse. Following the meal everyone participated in game of 90s trivia with Michael Meemken, Board Member, hosting. Memory was tested with topics such as the name of the show with Steve Urkel and what band was started in the 90s by the drummer from Nirvana.
The Outlaw provided a full bar with a variety of drinks. Katie Hammill and Sara Rosencranz played hits from the decade and kept the music flowing all evening. Prom-goers danced the night away.
With a limited amount of tickets to sell, about 50-60 people dressed up to attend prom. “We wanted to do something special for our 15th season, to just kind of kick things off,” explained Derek Olson, Executive Director. “What would we want to go to and everybody said that it would be a lot of fun to relive 90s prom!”
In addition to having a fun evening, the event was to raise funds for the BFACT. “The funds all go right back into community theater, and it helps fund our 15th season this year,” said Olson.
The BFACT has an active schedule full of events planned for this special 15th year. Olson said, “People can check our Facebook page or our website, bellefourcheacts.com for all of the stuff coming up—we’ve got a full season planned. The first show will be March 29 here in Belle Fourche and we have an exciting season coming up—a lot of stuff celebrating 15 years!”
Upcoming shows include: March 29, Getting Our Acts Together: A Night of Northern Hills One-Acts at the Rec Center Auditorium; June 26 through June 29, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Rec Center Auditorium; September 12 through 14, Is he Dead? at the Rec Center Auditorium and December 12 through 14, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Rec Center Auditorium.
The September show, Is He Dead? is special to the theater group. “In September, we’re doing the show, Is He Dead? which is actually the first show we did back in 2010 so we’re doing that again, kind of as a celebration of how far we’ve come,” explained Olson.
