Recount Proves Vote 100 percent Accurate

Butte County News News

BELLE FOURCHE- There were two Primary Races recounted in Butte County, District 4 County Commissioner and Precinct 13 Committeewoman. In the District 4 race Terry Batterman kept his one vote lead over Sue Broadhurst, while Kathryn Rhoden won by two votes over her opponent Lori Deighton.

The Recount Board was appointed by Judge Day who also set the day of the recount. County Auditor Annie Capp was there to assist with the ballots.

Ballots were run through the ballot machines with results matching the original count 100%. The Recount Board then decided to hand count both races. Again, all numbers matched and were 100% accurate.

Terry Batterman will take his commission seat at the first regular meeting of the Butte County Commission July 2 due to a new vacancy of Stan Harms’ place. Harms resigned his position following the June meeting and has moved on.

Batterman said that he “was ready” and eager to begin serving the people of Butte County.

“Let’s do it!” he said.

When asked what he thought of the recount and the close vote, Batterman said that the low turnout was upsetting and encouraged everyone to vote. This is an example that every vote counts he pointed out.

With no specific agenda, Batterman said that the top item is to be honest and look at every angle. He intends to listen, observe, and then decide. He will keep an open mind, but not a “yes man”.

Going in, Batterman plans to keep the interests of the county at the forefront and will work for every part of the county. The first order of business is the budget as the commissioners look to solving the needs of county residents. He has had “lots” of time and experience solving problems.
