NEWELL—An Irrigator Wrestling Camp for both youth and varsity athletes will be held at the Newell Middle School gym in July. The youth camp, which is for grades K-5 and is “designed to give the young wrestler the fundamentals that are critical for success, as well as teach them a system of wrestling,” will be July 15-19 from 6-8 p.m. The varsity camp is intended for grades 6-12 and is “designed for serious wrestlers who desire a highly competitive and intense training experience,” and will be held July 22-26 from 5-8 p.m. Girls are welcome to sign up and parents can stay and observe if they wish.
The camp directors are Dylan and Chase VanDerBoom, both of whom wrestled for Newell’s varsity team for six years and qualified for State four years. Dylan went on to wrestle for Morningside College before returning to Newell and coaching both AAU and Varsity wrestling. Chase currently attends Dickinson State University, where he wrestles and has been a youth wrestling coach and mentor for the last two years.
Cost for the camp is $100 per wrestler and $50 for each additional wrestler in the home. Sign up by July 1 for a free camp T-shirt!
