Central Meade County News

Happenings

After the blessing of 1.6 inches of rain or so in the Union Center area on Thursday night to Friday morning, it was followed by two very warm and sunny days to finish out the weekend.  A good number of folks took to the fishing holes and campgrounds.  While we hope for some sort of moisture this week, the forecast looks to be a dry one.  Hopefully all can get that first cutting of hay completed as between the threat of grasshoppers and the lack of moisture, it could be slim cuttin’s for the rest of the summer.   However, with a lot of prayers going up, Central Meade County usually fairs quite well considering extreme conditions we historically face.

Vacation Bible School is in full swing in Union Center this week. It is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 – 12:00 noon.  Thinking back to the past, we typically held VBS from Monday through Friday, 9:00 – 2:00.  It was always a long week, but we certainly felt renewed as teachers and helpers.

It was always a special time and many of the children who attended are either sending their kids, or their kids are too old to attend now.  Ages 5 and up are welcome and snacks will be provided.

Thank you to all volunteers to help provide this special opportunity for children in the area.  It will be held at the church in Union Center.

Larry Rhoden, serving as Ag Ambassador to South Dakota, left for a trade mission trip last weekend to both Japan and Taiwan.  They were very successful in their last mission to Mexico which was able to open some trading for South Dakota farm products.

Hopefully this will be another productive group of meetings as well.  Their schedule is packed with meetings so it is quite an intense time overseas.

Jack Seller hosted a nice group of ladies for Ladies Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning at the Community Baptist Church in Union Center. Francie Brink, Kathryn Spring, Donna Cammack, Deb Vig and others took advantage of the biscuits and gravy and more that Jack served.

On Saturday evening, Lorie and Gary Hausmann hosted Casey and Francie Brink, Deb and Leo Schnell, Bill Meirose, and Sandy Rhoden for an evening meal. A tour of Lorie’s yard and garden was enjoyable as was sitting outside on the deck indulging in a delicious meal and good conversation.

Congratulations are in order to Trenton Schuelke and Brooke Enright as they were married on Saturday.  The service was held at the Prairie Bible Church near Union Center and the reception was held at the CMCCC in Union Center.

Trenton has been a teacher at the Rural Meade School in Union Center and Brooke serves as an aide there as well.  The bride looked beautiful as well as the colors chosen for her bouquet.  There was a good crew of family who helped get the reception ready for the big celebration.  It was a special time for friends and family. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Schuelke!

As a reminder, this Sunday, June 30 will be the 50th anniversary celebration for Chuck and Ninu Spring at the Central Meade County Community Center from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
