Bronc Wrestlers have 8 Headed to State

The Lady Broncs had three state qualifiers. For the South Dakota Athletic Association, girls are selected for state competition based on their record from the season.

    Kyra Vandenberg, Freshman 100 pounder, Alexa Swaney, Junior 132 pounder, and Joselyn Shockey, Junior 145 pounder are this year’s Belle Fourche Bronc state qualifiers.

    On the boys’ side, state qualification is determined by placing in the top four at the Regional Tournament with 5th place being a possible alternate.   

    The class 4A Regional Tournament was held in Spearfish Saturday, February 17th. 

    The Broncs had five placers qualify; Teedin Humble at 106 pounds placed 4th, Riley Dighton at 138 pounds placed 4th, Owyn Schreder at 150 pounds placed 4th, Peyton Alexander at 157 pounds placed 4th, and Lucas Tonsager at 215 pounds placed 3rd. Garet Huston who placed 5th will be the Alternate at 120 pounds. 

     The Broncs had two 6th place winners, Jory Olson at 165 pounds and Zach Tonsager at 175 pounds. 

    Other Bronc competitors at the regional tournament were Koby Bowden at 126 pounds, Clifford Torberson at 144 pounds, and Trigg Olson at 190 pounds. 

    Teams in the Region 4A, in regional tournament team scoring order include; Sturgis Brown High School, Rapid City Stevens, Rapid City Central, Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood, Spearfish, Belle Fourche, Lakota Tech, Pine Ridge and Little Wound. 

     The South Dakota State Tournament will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls on Thursday February 22nd through Saturday February 24th.
