Obituaries

William (Bill) Dick, 92, of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, January 9th at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare in Spearfish, SD. He was born March 9, 1931, in Belle Fourche to Daniel and Lydia Dick and attended elementary and middle school in Belle Fourche and Nisland and graduated from Nisland High School in 1949. After graduating he farmed, worked for a local dairy, and began work as a carpenter.

On June 28th, 1953, he married Nettie Orwick at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche. The couple lived in Belle Fouche for 70 years, where he worked at several Belle Fourche businesses, including Motive Parts & Supplies for 20 years. Bill then started his own service station business, Dick’s Exxon, where he worked until he retired. After retirement Bill worked for another 20 years for the City of Belle Fourche at the City Land Fill. He was skilled at many trades and enjoyed using those skills to help others.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church his entire life and filled many roles for the congregation including helping to build the new church constructed in the late 1950’s. Bill was also a longtime member of the Belle Fourche Lion’s Club.

Bill was a lifelong fisherman and was also an avid card player his whole life and it mattered little what card game was suggested. He also enjoyed teaching young people how to drive including his own children, nieces, nephews, and his grandchildren.

He loved the outdoors, his yard, gardening and took tremendous pleasure in taking drives in the Black Hills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernon Dick; three sisters, Esther Bitterman, Freida Painter and Helen Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie, Belle Fourche; son, Douglas Dick and wife Ann Easterbrooks in Melrose, MA; daughter, Diane Wendt and husband Todd in Spearfish; a sister in-law, Bev Lliteras and her daughter Robbie Hieb (Derrick); 4 grandchildren and their spouses; Evan Easterbrooks-Dick (Swapna Maruri), Olivia Easterbrooks-Dick (Matt Sanda), Jacob Wendt (Rachel) & Alyssa Cahoy (Adam) and 1 great grandchild, Elijah Cahoy and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is cousin and lifelong friend, Jack Dick, and wife Wilma in Belle Fourche.

Visitation was Monday, January 15th at Kline Funeral Chapel, 838 State Street, Belle Fourche, SD.

Services were held, Tuesday, January 16th at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, SD with Synod Authorized Minister Ronda Mehrer and Deacon Laura Campbell officiating. Burial was at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
